For as long as I can remember, I had this idea that each and every morning is this wonderful opportunity to see what will come of the day. Like a present to open – what opportunities will present themselves? Who will I meet? What will I see? What will I hear?
You know… that split second you wake up: your eyes open, your mind hasn’t had a chance to catch up and set the list for the day… it’s just you there looking at the light coming through the curtains. It’s this beautiful little moment of innocence, joy, simplicity.
It’s in this exact moment where my mind says:
“Hmmm, I wonder what magic today will bring?”
I still remember as a kid waking up like this, excited, eager to see what the day will bring. I think I automatically always assume that it’s going to be “good stuff”… but as we know, that’s not always the case. As we get older, we start to see the shadow side of life, the “hard bits”.
In fact, I would argue that this becomes most of what adults learn to focus on, sadly.
HOWEVER!!!!! (BIIIIIGGG However!!!!)
This is the GOLD, because even amongst the struggles, tough times, challenging moments… there is so much beauty there for you to capture and appreciate!!! It might be more subtle in some ways… almost unrecognisable!!! – But it is always there!!! We have to train our mind and heart to SEE IT!!!
Look carefully.
Yes, “This too, shall pass” is the truth of the matter… but it’s not the full story. I prefer to think of it like this: “This too, shall change”. Change form, change feeling, change emotion.
Change. It’s the only constant! Moment by moment, day by day, month by month, year by year.
It ain’t all rainbows and unicorns, but it was never supposed to be that way. It’s like the Pheonix Rising from the Ashes, we forget that we are WARRIORS by ancestry. We know how to fight, we know how to heal. By virtue of you standing alive on this planet today tells me that you are indeed a Warrior, battle scars and all!
So when you see the sun rise this morning, ask…
“I wonder what magic today will bring?”
… and remember to open your eyes to see it, and your heart to let it come streaming in!
