What is Fitness to you?

While many of you may have different definitions to this question, we want to take the opportunity to share ours.

Fitness (to us) is the ability to be able to live your life pain-free, do the things you love, and reach your potential.

Natural Human Movement for Life:

Now, even though it seems there would be an individual definition from person to person, upon closer reflection there are actually a lot of commonalities here.

The ability to perform movements like standing, walking, running, climbing, sit and standing, bending over and picking up an object, picking yourself up from the ground, all provide us the basis for essential living.

At The Lifestyle Block we focus on the foundations of how our body is suppose to move. This creates a beautiful platform to be able to rehabilitate, strengthen and build upon a sound, pain-free body that can not only move well in the gym but sets you up for success in all facets of life.

But why is this so important?

When you lose the ability to be able to preform these basic movements, you lose the ability to safely live an independent life. We see it all too often that people come to us because of this issue, whether it’s because of injury or old age.

We believe that the better you move and the stronger you are creates a buffer from decrepitude and the bigger the buffer, the longer you have before someone has to help you perform life’s movements.

This is our “why”. We want to give people more fitness, more freedom, more life.

A few ways to get more Natural Human Movement into your life:

  • Take off your shoes. Walk, jog, play. Shoes have made our feet lazy, taking off your shoes and getting outside makes us actually begin to use our feet again and create strong arch’s.
  • Get off the couch. Sit on the floor as much as you can. If you Netflix and chill before bed, try spending the first 30mins on the floor sitting. Move around as much as needed because it will not be comfy but you will begin to see more mobility, flexibility and range of motion in joints.
  • If something hurts, move. Pain is telling the body it is not comfortable and you need to do something different. If you sit for work, get up and walk when ever you can. If you stand all day, take needed breaks and time off your feet.
  • Learn how to move safely. Know the keys points and how to brace when moving yourself and objects (and not just in the gym). So when the time comes you won’t put your back out lifting the green waste into the boot, or bringing the groceries in from the car.
